Answers to frequently asked questions about The Kaiju Papers. Last updated by Mission HQ on June 24, 02026.

What is The Kaiju Papers?

The Kaiju Papers is a collaborative transmedia arts and social justice advocacy project that combines futures thinking, political education, speculative fiction, and storytelling to build more just and equitable futures through the lens of Kaiju media.

The Kaiju Papers is presented as a Very Serious research mission that aims to answer the question, “What might the future(s) be like if humankind were to implement lessons from Kaiju about love, anti-fascism, the world, and ourselves?”

Access the Research Methodology and read more about the project here.

Who is behind The Kaiju Papers?

The Kaiju Papers is the absolutely bonkers brainchild of genevieve smith of GV Advisory, where she works as an organizational effectiveness consultant to philanthropy and social change organizations.

Did anyone ask for this?

No.

Why does The Kaiju Papers exist?

Because genevieve has wild ideas and has a tendency to really follow through on those ideas. They recently wrote about how TKP started and what their hopes for the future are here (be warned, though: this is a peek behind the curtain!).

Is The Kaiju Papers biased?

Yes. We are leftist, queer, and anarchist. Nothing is neutral. Everything is political.

How can I collaborate with TKP?

As of Summer 02026, we have two channels available for collaboration:

• Join the Arts Department by answering the creative brief.

• Propose co-authorship of a Field Report! (access Field Reports here) Email thekaijupapers@gmail.com with:

    • The film you want to report on
    • Your political grounding
    • A writing sample (link us to something that already exists in the wild or something else you’ve written! We don't want you to put extra effort in, we just want to get a sense of your writing voice)

If you have other ideas for collaboration, feel free to get in touch with us at thekaijupapers@gmail.com

What are the criteria for collaborating with The Kaiju Papers and joining the mission?

U gotta be cool, man! Political alignment is non-negotiable. We also prefer to work with sweeties who are open to collaboration and are not weird and rude on the internet. Please also keep in mind that even if you are a cool sweetie, our capacity for collaboration ebbs and flows! We will work to communicate transparently and compassionately with all interested folks.

Can The Kaiju Papers pay me for collaboration/contribution?

Not as of yet! As of summer 02026, we are funded through genevieve smith's income at GV Advisory! We hope that one day soon, paid subscriptions will cover our costs of operations. We are also exploring how we might fund the project! If you have ideas, let us know.

Contributions to the mission are on a volunteer basis—that said, we DO NOT expect folks to work with us on a volunteer basis if they do not want to! We trust folks to set and manage their own boundaries and we completely understand of folks can't afford to join in.

Can I fund The Kaiju Papers?

Yes please! If you would like to explore a funding relationship outside of our subscription tiers, get in touch with thekaijupapers@gmail.com.

Also keep in mind that we are available for hire for futures workshops!

How else can I support The Kaiju Papers?

Here are some of the things we're looking for right now!

    • Help get The Kaiju Papers on folks’ radars
    • Become a paying subscriber
    • Tell ur friends to become paying subscribers
    • Help us distribute zines (to people or to radical bookshops)
    • Help us host in-person events
    • Buy Dr. Tex a new hat
    • Have another idea? Reach out and tell us about it!

Ok, but is The Kaiju Papers a real institution?

No! It's genevieve smith in a mustache.

I have a complaint, where should I send it?

You can message our Administrative Assistant, Egg. Please note that if your complaint is about the following, it may end up being shared on our social media channels:

  • That Godzilla is not political
  • That we are spreading the quuer agenda (and that this is a bad thing)
  • The we don't understand monsters
  • ...or anything else that we find humorous.
